Republican Candidates Ducking Debate

I have just been informed that Ron Polacco and Andi Turco-Levin have both pulled out of the August 30th debate on WGHQ radio. The debate, which will run from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. will feature only Jean Jacobs and myself.

As far as I am concerned, a candidate for Mayor must be willing to debate and defend his or her positions. It would seem that Andi and Ron are unwilling or perhaps unable to do so. When someone is elected Mayor, he must be willing to take on all issues. He cannot simply run away and hide. The ostrich in the sand approach is not good policy.

I urge everyone to tune in to WGHQ on August 30th from 8:00 am to 9:00 am to hear a debate between the only two candidates willing to do so. Should Ron or Andi appear at your door seeking your vote, I urge you to remind them that a leader does not run and hide. A leader is willing to answer all questions from the voters. A leader does not hide from a debate.

What cowards!! I guess they know they cannot take you in a debate, Rich.

What will Andi and Ron do when things get tough -- hide under the desk?

I am sure they will find a legitimate excuse that may be believable to some but we all know that King Sinagra must have told his golden girl to stay clear of any more debates because she did so poorly at the one held at the Freeman Office. People will finally see that she is all fluff and offers nothing for the City residents and Polacco more of the same.

Andi is being smart. She knows that another debate with you will just hurt her chances. She is better off only making public appearances that she has complete control over until after the primaries. Ron has probably been told he will have a job in Andi's administration so he is just following suit. The more Andi is pressed in these coming days the less likely she will get the nomination.

They want no part of debating you.

Rich why don't you invite both Democratic candidates and debate both of them,to prove your the best candidate for the Mayor office.

7:37,

I would be more than happy to debate Shayne and Hayes. Just name the time and place.

I am sure both of them would show up.

Every day, we just get more proof of a simple fact: There are 3 substantive candidates in the race: You, Clement and Gallo.

Whether the powers-that-be in the city Democratic committee picked the right guy is debatable. (I think they did pick right.) But whether Sinagra & Co. picked the right GOP horse for the race is no longer debatable. They screwed up. It should have been Rich.

Politically, you can't beat something, however flawed, with nothing. Andi stands for nothing, is willing to debate nothing, and speaks persuasively to nothing.

Does Andi think she'll be able to duck debating Clement or Gallo in the general? I've seen both her and Clement in (separate) house-party settings where they spoke then did Q&A. Clement was VERY impressive -- knowledgeable, direct, and ready to keep going as long as anybody had a question. Andi was ... OK, but she's not playing at the same level. Gallo can hold his own in a debate, too, I'm sure.

Maxwell said it plain enough. Andi was scared to debate you.

Why bother running for Mayor if every time something comes up that makes you look like your incompitant you run from that...Andi needs to stick to the running she's good at.
No way this woman can possibly handle being Mayor of this city. I feel sorry for her just watching her try, but sympathy sure isn't getting my vote!

Levin,Polacco and Sinagra realize by instinct not thought, their stupidity. Those who function in this manner run from what has caused pain in the past, much like an animal avoids being re-burned. My recommendation is that you and the democratic candidates push for debates at any time ,in any format. This ignorance and the playing of voters for fools must be exposed. They have now boxed themselves into a corner;,they loose if they debate and they loose if they do not debate.Such is the fate of ignorance and cowardice;and such it should be.
