The Voters Have a Right to Know

The Ulster Town Board is holding a special meeting this Tuesday to decide whether to grant FOIL requests to release a police dash cam video of a traffic stop of Legislator Jennifer Schwartz Berky.

Allegedly, during this stop, Berky treated the officer in a nasty and disrespectful tone.  She also played the old "don't you know who I am" routine, dropping various names such as the Sheriff.

Her behavior was so outrageous that media outlets want to hear and see the video.

Berky has hired a lawyer who is asking the Board to wait until after the election before releasing it.

Sorry, Ms. Berky, but the people have a right to know how their legislator behaves and treats others in public.  You obviously feel that you are better than the average person because you have won an election and thus should not be subject to speeding laws like everyone else.

Hubris, arrogance, and condescension.

It will be interesting to see the outcome. It’s obvious that there’s unflattering behavior on the video, which explains the effort and expense of Schwartz-Berky to hire a lawyer to squash the release.
Unfortunately, for those in the know, she has a history of dramatical outbursts in meetings and in public. Anyone remember her being escorted out of the county office building screaming and carrying on like a petulant child?

One could probably go around City/Town/County/region/etc to those who have been involved with her as friends, acquaintances, colleagues, group members etc. with her personally on a regular basis since she moved here and get some pretty shocking/but consistent anecdotes regarding her behavior. Just a thought. I suspect it would make quite the compilation.

Does she even live in the district? I heard her kid attends Rondout.

Oh, I can imagine how lively the 2 pm radio show will be this Sunday. Hope you plan to have the entire tape ready to roll for the listening audience to hear. For those who thought the tape would not be released until after the Elections, how wrong they were.

Wow just read Berky's "apology" in the local paper. Really an apology only after the video is made public? Where has the apploigy been for the past five months? Step up Berky and answer the questions...it's ok you check with Tom the only person ever fired by Elliot spritzer and Kevin Cahill before responding but respond.

paper also said she failed to appear at several court appearances back in June? what is that all about?? must have retained counsel..got to wonder where those funds came from when she stated several times she was broke... O'Connor does not come cheap . pretty sure she does not qualify for pro bono ?? haven't listened to your show as I am usually busy outside the house on your time slot..will make it a point today....

I just got an email from a friend in Florida wanting to know if I knew of this person..Schwartz-Berky. He heard about it on Facebook and took a look at the video. He wanted to know if for real that she was a legislator. and running for re election? Said us NYers are crazy and this proved it...lol and if she gets elected again there is no hope for us here in liberal land.... turn the lights off and go home!

OK Berky lost the election. Over a traffic ticket. Somewhere in all of this viral media attention, somebody needs to point out that she got the same unfair treatment in the press that Trump has been suffering. To be sure, I know plenty of cops & prosecutors who regularly skate after getting caught drunk driving; judges caught snorting coke; and oodles of dirty old congressmen with an irresistible penchant for little boys.

No. This was not about a traffic ticket.

This was about erratic and unstable behavior. This was about arrogance and unethical behavior.

Your defense of her is the equivalent of, "But, Mom, Johnny's mom let's him stay out past 9pm."

Bogus defense.
