Scandal in the City Democratic Committee?? -- attempts being made to fix the nomination??

Joe Donaldson, the City Democrat Chairman, is supporting Steve Noble for Mayor.  This is no secret.  He supports Noble because he hates Gallo.  What is not known (according to several party insiders) is that Donaldson is trying to secretly fix the election for the party nomination.

How is he doing this?  There are two things he is doing.

First, he has appointed his son and several people from Rosendale to the committee simply because they will be anti-Gallo.  This is legal, but unethical.  By law, one must only live in the Assembly district to be a  committeeman.  However, allowing non-Kingstonians to select the Democratic candidate for Kingston is simply wrong.  He also has appointed those from Kingston to vacant spots who are decidedly anti-Gallo.

Second, and more egregiously, he has moved the committeemen around to garner more votes for Noble.  Some political parties use a weighted voting system.  The Democrats do.  A committeeman who is assigned to a district that garnered more votes on the Democrat line for Governor gets a higher weighted vote.  In other words, one committeeman's vote is worth more than another's vote.

In theory, one could get less than a majority of the 54 committeeman, but still win the nomination based solely on the weighted vote so long as the people who support that candidate are in the strongest Democrat voting districts.

I have been informed by several people in the Democrat committee that Chairman Donaldson has been moving the anti-Gallo committeemen into the districts with the larger weighted vote.  It has been told to me that Chairman Donaldson's son is in the district with the largest weighted vote.  Sound fair to you?  If this is true, I consider it reprehensible.

Here's an idea.  Stop the political backroom maneuvering and let the committeemen decide who they want to be their candidate.  I wonder what the enrolled Democrats in the city who will vote in the likely primary would think of this political underhandedness.  If Noble beats Gallo for the nomination in a fair fight, so be it.  That's the process.  But, to move the players around for the sole purpose of influencing the vote is just plain wrong.

There must be laws against this sort of thing. Is this really legal?! If the democrats feel they have to cheat to win...they must be worried.

So how do you know all of this?

I too have heard the same maneuverings going on with committee people. What a pathetic bunch of individuals. Nothing like trying to rig the nomination process. This sounds like the workings of Joe Donaldson and his cronies. What successes can Donaldson claim?? Last election was a bust for Democrats in offices where it really counts.2 judgeships, a state Senator, a Congressman. How is that working out?? They need to get over their pettiness and concentrate on doing the work of the people.. a honest, straight forward election and nomination process. So glad I switched to an NOP after leaving the democrats.

Nominating conventions are deemed unofficial. This is why we have primaries in which the enrolled rank and file political party members get to chose their nominee.

That is true. However, there are big advantages to having the party's nomination. An attempt to fix the process is a serious matter.

the big scandal is that the dem committee embraces jeremy blaber and a few hours after their meeting last night, he gets arrested AGAIN. how does the leader of the committee let this guy in the door?? what are they thinking?? can't make this stuff up

What did Blaber get arrested for? This is Joe Donaldson pal, how can Joe Donaldson be a chairman of a committee, the committee must be blind and of no character.

Charlie Landi is just a bitter old fool who can't get over losing his seat in ward 3. Still thinks he is viable in the Democratic scheme of things. You had your chance, now move along! And take Hoffay with you. Your actions are ruining the local democratic party.

The scandal is that the Donaldson's, Landi, Hoffay & Reynolds are running the committee.

10:28,

I have heard that discussion, but I would be surprised. BA is a banker by trade. If he ran for office, his job would be very upset.

I can say that he has not contacted me or anyone else on the Conservative City Committee about it.

We will see though.

Plus he was at Gallo's announcement yesetrday

After a conversation with BA Feeney last month, he stated he is not interested in running for Mayor at this time. Involved with his job.

Ball is keeping him out of jail .

Ball does not even have the case. I went to Kpd I found one charge of trespass at his own apartment, I guess it was posted for electrical problems. I have not heard of this drug thing? If he was arrested for drugs even prescription he'd be in jail. A violation trespass on an apartment he rents very doubtful. Drugs would be a minimal of a misdiminor and very different. I went to Kpd they seemed aggravated I was even asking and refused to give any information other than allowing me to view the blotter. I saw him at Gallo's announcement he didn't look high but that takes balls!

Two other things: I saw him driving and that should be a violation right there. Also on blotter he gave gals information to police, his birthday is listed as 10/06/87. No way he's under thirty, that would have him at 26?! No offense but if this guy is able to lie to police and they buy it he deserves to be as polerizing as he is. Just because he doesn't have a driver's license does not mean they should not check his Id. What person would believe he's 26. He's smartest twent six yr old I ever met, he was in his late twenties when Gallo fired him, so he's gotta be 32? A lie is a lie and that's a misdiminor!
