Freeman Will Not Allow Ladin to Debate

The Daily Freeman has decided not to allow Steve Ladin to join the November 3rd debate. Below are the e-mails confirming this fact.

E-mail #1 was sent from Steve Ladin to Paul Kirby, a reporter of the Daily Freeman (not his decision to exclude Ladin or me originally).

From: Stephen Ladin [mailto:steveladinformayor@yahoo.com]
Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2011 12:46 PM
To: Paul Kirby
Subject: Re: Profile

Hi Paul - Rich Cahill tells me that neither he nor I have been invited to the next debate that the Kingston freeman is conducting. Please correct this oversight (have you forgotten what happened to the so called front runners in the primary?). And in case you're not paying attention: I believe Rich Cahill will gather more votes than Ron Polacco. Thanks--

E-Mail #2 is the response from Tony Adamis of the Daily Freeman

Steve:
Paul Kirby forwarded your note to me.
Cahill has been invited to the Freeman debate.
You are not being invited to our debate because we don't believe your candidacy is likely to affect the outcome.
Sincerely,
Tony Adamis
Managing Editor, Kingston Daily Freeman

First, I thank Steve for his very kind words about me.

Second, I think Steve Ladin should be permitted to be in the debate. He collected more signatures than any other candidate to get on the ballot. While he may not have a major party line, he is still a candidate for the office of Mayor and is entitled to a level of respect.

I can understand not inviting all candidates running for President or New York State Governor since there are usually 9 to 12 candidates on the ballot. That would be unruly. In this election, however, there are only 4 candidates. Allowing Steve to be present would cause no significant difficulty. Additionally, he is a very nice guy and I enjoy hearing him speak. I cannot say I agree with him on the issues, but I respect his willingness to step up to the plate and debate three experienced politicos, two of whom are trained attorneys.

It is of course entirely up to the Freeman since they are hosting the debate. I would hope that they would reconsider and allow Steve to participate in the debate.

If not, then perhaps Steve should follow the debate online and give written answers to the questions asked. He can then post them on the comments section of the Freeman article so people can see them.

Rich it's all well and good and I for one hope you win the November Mayoral election but there are a few things that need to have some light shed upon.
First, Steve Aaron is seeking approval for yet another government funded business venture, one where the Taxpayers put up the money, take all the risk and he gets all the profit, only the profit comes from the tax payers as well.
Second, how does this guy weasel his way into county politics, OK it's the money, but the money he has was either stolen from his mother or stolen from the taxpayers. This is the thief who is to buy Golden Hill for $8 million, something stinks.
Third he's the biggest campaign contributor to Hein, another theif.
what's up Richie, can't anyone show this up for what it is or is everyone on Aaron's payroll?

We need to get out of this belief that only the major parties matter. More accurately only the TWO major parties matter. I thought the point of this country was that every person had the right and ability to run for public office, rather than only the select few with the right blood line or connections.

The Freeman and its owners are low-class; it's no wonder they exhibit such ill-manners. If a mayoral debate is held, all the candidates should be invited.
I don't think much of the Freeman's style of debate anyway, hiding the candidates in some dirty little room (probably now all they can afford due to drop in circulation)doesn't serve the voting public. If the paper wants to run a debate, it should be in a public forum and be a proper debate. Questions from the public are all well and good, but I would like to hear a classic debate in which the candidates put forth their own ideas and defend them, sink or swim.
Pity Channel 23 is no longer operational. A debate on TV would be great.
I'm glad you stood up for Ladin. He seems like a nice person.

Well said, 3:46 - Steve Aaron is no better than the common thief. We're all outraged when we hear of people involved in a food stamp or welfare scam, but people like Steve Aaron steal a lot more than any of these people.

Aaron hasnt paid his taxes on Biorchwood Village. How can the City allow him to build another project in the City when once again he will not pay his taxes. This has to stop, I guess Oliveri must be involved.

Since the Freeman decides who is to debate than perhaps none should debate.Once again the Freeman fails to meet the obligation of a free press by limiting the opinions we may hear.

Hey Rich,

I hear Shayne Gallo gets really angry whenever someone mentions the chamber debate. From what I hear, he can't stand the fact that you beat him handily in that debate.

He may just come after you in the next debate to soothe his ego.

Oliveri, Lenefsky, Zweben, Spada & Aaron, they scammed the Kignston Housing Authority out of $100's of thousands, Aaron continues today, he takes government grants to subsidize his senior housing, gets tax abatements and pilots to offset any additional taxes then gets to collect the rent, all profit at the expense of us all. If that's not bad enough the only way you get to reside in his senior housing is if you know someone or kiss his smelly ass. Nut when you think about it, it's just business as usual in the most crooked county in the state.
Hein ought to be strung up by his family jewels for allowing this guy near a government building let alone public funding, can you imagine the cost of health care once this little thief gets his hands on the title?

By the way, I know of three other people besides myself that have posted comments opposed to Blabers ideology, none of us have been published. what a joke that boy is, and he tries to appear as though he's not a bag man for the democrats.
Kingston needs a new direction, hopefully it will be you, Rich, but if we want jobs and prosperity rather than welfare and crime we'd better get smart, there are only 2 weeks left.

Carnright should at least investigate all the rumors surrounding the deal between Hein & Aaron regarding Golden Hill, Legislature Rodriguez might be a good place to start, after all he is a Aaron employee and should be privy to some of the innerdealings. From what has been made public, (and that's not all that much), the campaign contribution connection and the GH deal sounds lousy with corruption. Why wasn't GH opened for outside bidding, why was the deal struck in the back rooms where the likes of men like Aaron do the taxpayers the most harm?
I think between Eliott & Holly there should be a full blown investigation and Hein should disclose all his communications ie:emails and meetings with Mr Aaron. If we were dealing with credible men none of this would be necessary, but when you mix a questionable character like Aaron with any local politician it usually means the taxpayer is on the hook

1:17,

I am well aware that Shayne very strongly feels he won the debate. He has made that known to me in no uncertain terms.

He is entitled to his opinion. I personally feel that I won the Chamber debate.

Nevertheless, there are 3 more debates: tomorrow morning at City Hall (10:00 a.m.), October 31 at 8:00 a.m. on WGHQ, and November 3rd at 11 am (Daily Freeman). We will see how they go.

As for your thought that Shayne will "come after me" at the next debate, I am not really concerned. I do not underestimate Shayne. He is a fellow attorney. But, I can handle him in a debate.

Go Rich, you are the only viable candidate in the mayoralty race and certainly the only hope for Kingston on the Ballot!

Rich
The city is mumbling, and people are getting the hint that Shayne is more of the same old bs...this race is yours but you need to get vocal, quickly and loudly, not just at the debates.
You are the sleeper and can win this race
Push Shayne and he will explode, thats his M.O.
Show the people he is not ready for prime time
We the people need you, get out and start preaching!

According to the Freeman, the debate will be shown on the Internet and saved so people can watch it when they want to in case they don't see it when it takes place.

No great loss that Ladin will not be debating with the politicos. He offers nothing to lead the City. If he were applying for a tourism position or arts director, maybe. Aside from that, he should continue to be a tourist in our City, and go on his nature walks with his companion. He is out of his league.

Rich,

Nice job today at City Hall. You won that debate too.

Anonymous said...

Rich, Did you see the comments from Blaber? He claims Gallo won both debates?

I saw the chamber debate online and I was at City Hall yesterday. You kicked Gallo's ass. Gallo came in 3rd behind Ladin. Polacco was last.

Why does Blaber praise Gallo no matter how badly he gets beat?

Anonymous said...

Rich
Please do not defend yourself to Blaber, its way beneath you to take him seriously.
In a city full of undecuated voters, dont entertain the biggest joke of them all.
Business people and educated voters know he is just a kid with a blog and dont take what he says seriously.
I mean really, he defended Jim Sottile for years, and look where that got him.
Now he is sucking up to Shayne, and alot of people arent pleased with that eithers
Gallo would do well to dismiss that kid now.

Blaber will praise anyone that feeds his face and his ego, both are pretty big.
Seriously though, Blaber is an ideological ass and regardless of the shape of the city, the dems have pretty much made it a welfare state ladened with crime, gangs, drugs and corruption, (memember Lt Matthews), Blaber will not admit the Republicans will do a better job.

Anonymous said...

Oh by the way, COngratulations Rich, you were the clear winner in this debate as well. it doesn't say much about Polacco but it certainly tells us what a mess we'll be in if Gallo gets elected.

Hats off to you for making the Freeman's narrow minded exclusion public.
