The Chamber Debate

I enjoyed myself at the debate this morning. I felt I did well. I felt that I was ahead in the opening and closing remarks (particularly the closing). In the Q & A, I thought Shayne Gallo was very strong. I think an argument could be made in his favor or my favor on that part of the debate.

Ron and Steve performed well. Ron was very nervous, but eventually relaxed. Steve's opening remarks were quite interesting. I thought Ron's best comment was after my closing when he said, "Rich, I've seen you at many meetings. I never knew you could be so funny."

I appreciate the Chamber inviting me to the debate. I just hope I added something to the conversation.

RICH, NICE JOB TODAY. HOWEVER I WOULD ARGUE THAT YOU WERE THE BEST IN SHOW. RON IS LOST AND WITHOUT A PLAN. STEVE SHOULD CONSIDER TRYING TO GET A LOBBYING JOB FOR THE ART AND BOOKS CROWD. I AGREE SHAYNE GALLO WAS AND STILL IS THE CANDIDATE FOR ALL KINGSTON TO GET BEHIND AND PUT HIM IN CITY HALL.

Mr. Rodden,

Thanks for the kind words, though I do disagree with the last part.

You were outstanding, Rich. It would have been better if it was just you vs. Gallo in a 1 on 1 debate.

Great job!!

I hear that Mr Gallo was at a nice meeting of the good ole boys club the other night at the hillside.
I know some of your readers believe that Shayne wants no part of that group, just curious why he was there...

I say it again Shayne has no personality, he is all Lawyer. If Shayne were delivering remarks to a Judge, I might have leaned his way. But the fact of the matter is that we need someone who has a personality and one with concrete solutions.

Rich,

You were really good. I was surprised at your sense of humor. You are always so serious. Today, you were damn funny.

You won the debate easily. Great job!!

I also disagree with Mr. Rodden. Shayne Gallo hasn't a clue on how to run this City. The only reason he has any backing is his name. He is riding his family's coattails, always did, always will.

Good job, nice to see you loosen up and enjoy yourself. Agree that it should be you and Shayne, agree that Shayne was acting too much like a lawyer, and no question that Ron came in fourth of four. As to who was number one and who was number two, it depends on the perspective. Lets also remember that as the frontrunner, Shayne has far more to lose and to a certain extent is playing a "no doubles" defense.

As to the comment about the "good ole boys", its about time to give it up. Shayne understands that this is his election to lose and that come January 1 he is going to have to govern and be the mayor of all the people, new boys and girls, old boys and girls, short, tall, fat and thin.

The sooner he starts mending fences and bringing people on board, the better for all concerned. There is too much work to do to refuse to listen to people who might be able to help., regardless of their affiliations.

Rich, I heard you did a great job and was terrific in the humor dept. wish we could see more of that on the campaign trail and quotes in local media. You have a plan and I am afraid that the republican candidate might be floundering.
Can't vote for Gallo as I suspect he is cozying up to the current administration behind closed doors.

6:09,

I think your comments about the debate are very fair.

Thanks for the kind words.

Easy to see Gallo getting cozy with the good lo boys. His new signs Gallo/Noble is bought and paid for with good ol boy money. A vote for Gallo is a vote for status quo.

RICH, SEVERAL OF YOUR BLOGGERS KEEP TRYING TO CONNECT SHAYNE TO THE GOOD OLD BOYS NOT THE CASE!!! AND FOR SHAYNES LAWYERS ATTITUDE THATS O.K. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO PROJECTS ATHORITY IN THE FRONT OFFICE NOT SOMEONE LIKE YOURSELF WHO SEEMS TO LIKE TO LECTURE PEOPLE RATHER THEN TALK TO THEM.

Mr. Rodden,

As a lawyer myself, I do not consider the statement that someone was acting as a lawyer to be an insult.

Second, I think the point was that Shayne was being very sedate and flat in his presentation. His answers were sound, but people were expecting a little more personality.

I know Shayne and consider him a friend. He has an outgoing personality and perhaps should have included that personality in his remarks.

I do not think his performance was bad. He came across as quite competent, albeit obviously nervous and sedate.

Someone suggested he was playing a "no doubles defense". That is certainly plausible.

You wish.
All of the people that everyone has listed "good ole boys", are all backing Shayne, and he has his hand out already, all set to be thier leader in chief.
Noble as a running mate?
He couldnt find one person less connected to run with?

Vote for Cahill, you done see him out sucking up to any groups, and he is qualified.
Just cant argue these facts

I see Blaber has put up a post claiming that Gallo "easily" won the debate.

Is he kidding? I watched the debate. You won. Everyone I spoke to at the breakfast thought you won.

Richard T. Cahill Jr. said...

8:16,

Do not worry about it. Jeremy is a big supporter of Gallo. He likely declared Gallo the winner while we were still eating breakfast. He also is entitled to his opinion.

I know I did well at the debate. I personally felt it was the best debate performance I have ever given. As for whether I "won" the debate, that is up to those who witnessed it to decide.

Jim Rodden you are way off base if you think Shayne isn't connected to the good ol boys. YOu yourself have the same good ol boys connections. Are you not getting a pension from the City? Didn't his brother give you a do nothing job?

Anonymous said...

I have tried to get Blaber to post my comment. He refuses because he does not agree with my opinion. Maybe you will post it.

I voted for Gallo in the Primary. I will vote for him in November. He will be a good Mayor.

BUT -- You won the debate at the Chamber Breakfast.

You were funny and your answers were strong. You are too far to the right for me, but you won the debate.

6:09P.M. ARE YOU STUPID OR WHAT!!!
FIRST OFF I DON'T GET A PENSION FRON THE CITY OF KINGSTON AND SECOND T.R. DIDN'T GIVE ME A DO NOTHING JOB. I INTERVIEWED WITH A COMMITTE FROM THE COUNCIL. SADLY MY ABILITY TO PROFORM ALL THE DUTIES OF THE JOB WERE MET WITH CONSTENT C.S.E.A.INTERFERENCE. HOWEVER THE SAME DESENTERS CAUSED MANY PROBLEMS FOR THE CITY AND CAUSED EXTREME COSTS FOR TRAINING THAT THEY MEMBERS OF C.S.E.A.CHOSE TO IGNORE. SO TO THE IDIOT WHO SENT IN THE BLOG TO MAKE ME LOOK SMALL THANKS FOR THE OPPERTUNITY TO SORT OF GET THE TRUTH OUT. AND I STILL SAY NOT THE GOOD OL BOYS.

Jim Rodden was a lackey for the front office from day one, and every employee at DPW knows it! Rodden claims he got his job by way of a "committee of the council' but anyone on the inside knows that T.R. pulled the strings. T.R. APPOINTED the committees and thay did what they were instructed to do by HIM, especially when it involved hirings. Nice try Jim Rodden, but most employees dont buy the B.S. you are stating...by the way, Rodden must be looking for something from the incoming administration, he is in Buttkissing mode big time! LOL
By the way Rich, you did win the debate.

Rich, Jim Rodden has alot of nerve accusing you of "lecturing". Perhaps if Rodden actually did his job as a safety officer, the city would never had been sued for sexual harrassment. The city employees NEVER recieved state mandated training for a simple class in sexual harrassment, and indirectly, Rodden can be blamed for NOT performing or setting up the mandated training that subjected the city to accountability as a result. In fact, there were several trainings that the city was cited for, for not having given to its employees that were state mandated that Rodden never gave to the employees. He was a terrible safety officer and quit as soon as the heat was put on the city thereby leaving others holding the bag.

THE ONLY THING JIM RODDEN DID WHEN HE WORKED FOR THE CITY,WAS RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT OF TR'S VEHICLE,ALL DAY.
