No Rush to Judgment

I have received numerous comments on this blog asking me for further statements or opinions on the charges and investigations against Lt. Matthews of the Kingston Police Department.

Lt. Matthews has been ACCUSED of Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing $9,000.00 in evidence money. He has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent until proven guilty or until he makes a plea or an admission. None of these has occurred.

There is an investigation regarding the school district and its security. No formal charges have been brought yet.

I will not under any circumstances make a judgment on this matter until the investigations are over and the evidence submitted. I also want to hear Lt. Matthews' side of the story. Our system of government allows the most vile of criminals the presumption of innocence. Is not an officer of Matthews' stature entitled to at least that?

I hope that the good people of Kingston will avoid listening to the rampant rumors which will no doubt spread throughout the city. There should be no rush to judgment. If the Lieutenant committed a crime, then he should be punished. Until a crime is proven or admitted by the Lieutenant, I will not condemn him. I am willing to give Lt. Matthews the benefit of the doubt.

Good for you. It is amazing how people love to attack at first chance. We don't know the story at this point. Who says the money was even stolen? Misappropriated maybe, given to a CI or something. Doesn't make it right, but it is a whole lot different than stealing for personal use. Our DA would do well to make sure he has all the facts before he tries to start pounding the nails into this guy's cross. Out of respect for Detective Mathews' years of service, I will at least give him the chance to explain himself.

As far as the double dipping if that is even true, I would like to know from all of these people. Have you ever burned a sick day when you weren't sick. That's stealing from your company.

Where was Sottile, Kelder and Tuey on this?

Great - we paid this Detective 1 of 15 - are you kidding me - we need that many solving crime in Kingston rather than visible men in uniform on the street preventing and deterring it. He makes $ 30,000 in overime in drug enforcement overime and then is accussed of stealing the seizure money - wow! How much overtime did we pay other detectives to investigate this?

Why is he being paid while on leave, if found innocent then grant him his back salary. If not the City is left out to dry and he continues to get back. Who else is part of this?

Contractually mandated.

Agreeing to contracts with paid leave isn't mandatory - is it?

Rich..you have a double standard.
If this were Hinchey or Sottile you'd be quick to demand their resignation.
Just saying

Lt. Matthews has earned the benefit of any doubt in my book. Sottile and Hinchey have not.

Sottile and Hinchey are clowns

Unsafe, dirty and unaffordable - the Sottile, Reynolds - legacy.

They let Matthews file for his pension before bringing charges didn't they?

Now the City is going to charge the Residents for pickup of furniture etc. Not sure why we pay taxes in this City?

No yard waste pick up during th esummer months. Thats when everyone has yard waste another brillant idea by Schupp and the COunsil. Why dont we just dump everything in the street. Fines for putting snow back into the street, this has been on the books for months what about the guys that plow private lots that were they put all of the snow. What hapends when they put 3 feet of snow back on my sidewalk. This City is going down fast.

Hey 12:44, so long as people in this city keep voting Democrat no matter what, the same stuff is gonna continue.

These clowns just do what the Democrat party wants because they know most people vote the party line.

We need new blood. I don't care if its Republicans, Conservatives, Independents, whatever, just no more Democrats. They have destroyed the city.

Residents will have to bring their furniture to the South end of Kingston so we can pay DPW to bring it to the County transfer station at the North end of Kingston - we are dopes. No wonder politicians keep getting DWIs covered up?

The Blaber poll for mayor went down today but everyone saw the results. Now let.s wait and see what Blaber will report.I bet it will be a crock of bull. The people know the results let.s wait for the coming fiction.

Richard T. Cahill Jr. said...

The poll is not scientific, but it is fun to watch.

When last we saw the polls, Hayes Clement was in first with Shayne Gallo a very close second. In third was other and Donaldson trailed.

In the Republican vote, I was in first with 54%. Turco-Levin was Second, "other" was third, Jacobs was fourth and Polacco was fifth.

It amazes me that a Department Head will tell the Common Council that "I will try" to pick up the yard waster during the summer months. Well if Mr. Schupp cannot take direction, I owuld say that he should move on as he works for the Residents and the Counicl. He does not work for himself.

Let's not check other City employyes running businesses on the side? Gee - where is the Charter mandated ethics committee our long-term Alderman - at - large was suppose to have for the past 12 years?

Why can't the City get the Finkle/Murphy loan funds audited? Why do candiates accept campaign contributions from businesses granted taxpayer funded loans and who are behind on payments?

Are City Employees on disability allowed to work at the Frair Tuck?

Why hasn't the snow been removed from the Uptown business district, but it's being removed from side streets.

Now Hoffay wants to dictate how the Mayor presents his Annual Message

Hey Rich, look at this quote from Blaber:

"Hayes Clement who represents Ward 9, is a good guy and an Alderman that has shown basic competency in his ward but in no way is he going to be Kingston's next mayor. Hayes is smart and has done all the right things to quickly establish himself as a rising star in Democratic politics, going to county functions (something Gallo and Noble have not done), throwing around money and hosting events for important Democrats, and establishing himself as a businessman that has the right skills and temperament to run the city.

Fact is though, we don't know what kind of Mayor Hayes would be, he has been on the political scene for all of 10 minutes and his candidacy is really a lot of hype by the political establishment. We do know Clement is a Conservative Democrat at best, some would say he is a Democrat in name only and I would be hard pressed to find anyone to call him Progressive."

I wanted you to see this because this is a Democrat Committee stating that the candidacy of Hayes Clement (the likely nominee) is "really a lot of hype by the political establishment"

I expect the Democrats will force Blaber to take the quote down and I think you or any Republican running against Clement should have this quote ready for use.

Why aren't trash pick ups delays due to snow or holidays ever on web-site, DPW voice mail, or radio - the City is literally plowing garbage.

This won't cost anything!

Dirty, costly and un-safe.
