Brad Will Resigns

Officially, Brad Will resigned over concerns over possible conflicts of interest with his career.

I find this odd.  I have seen Aldermen recuse themselves on votes.  I did so.  Bob Senor did so.  Others did so.  Why can't Will simply abstain??

Rumors abound about possible "real" reasons for the resignation.

Maybe he is going to work on the Nathanial Booth house. What he did is unfair to his residents. They now will get a resume hired individual (Noble's way of doing business)to represent them until Dec.2017. Not right. Seat should go to his opponent who was very close in votes. Just please don't let it be Landi....

So what's the real reason? Do you think this administration will tell the real story?

Well the scuttlebutt is that he may have something to do with the restoration of the Booth House, and he simply doesn't want to walk down the same road he walked down already with that as he did with the Pike Plan.
That said, you clearly have a valid point. This city has in fact seen two resignations of aldermen in the last year. This is no way to run a railroad--or a municipality.

The other website is a lot more detailed on this I hope you are not slipping. :) As a lawyer and someone that has been involved longer than the Goodfellas author, I am sure you know more about the topic. What are some of the names that you think will be considered for Will's seat? What is the real reason that he stepped down? Do you agree with Blaber on any of his long babbling post, what about the mention of Sottile as a possible appointee? Tell me that is not a possibility. Why is a "Republican" promoting two staunch progressives like Sottile and Landi I wonder.

1) I do not read Blaber's blog. I could not care less about it.

2) possible replacements are Landi, Champ-Doran, and Richard Kelder.

3) I would be amazed if Sottile wants it or if Noble would be foolish enough to offer it.

The last thing a mayor needs is a former mayor sticking his nose into city business.

4) As for why he stepped down ... It is important to realize that the City Ethics Board has no jurisdiction over him now. Likely reason is to avoid further sanctions.

Who makes up the Ethics Board now??

Not aware of any changes yet. Mayor Noble has kept all appointees, but has set up a new system for choosing replacements when terms expire or there is a resignation.

Not to mention Brad Will may be implicated in the Pike Plan design. Faulty design and etc....Me thinks he needs the work and the only projects for him involve city business or interests. Perhaps if he had read the ethics guidelines he might not have run for another term.

heaven help the 3rd ward if Landi re-appears. He is not well regarded in that ward. Rumor has it that his actions in requesting DPW to help with flooding in his neighborhood could have precipitated the infamous Washington Ave. sinkhole. He was pandering for the votes....

For those who are simply guessing about the events that led up to Brad Will's resignation, the transcripts of the first charges filed against him were available for viewing by foiling them from the City Clerk's Office. As an alderman he had no regard for the very law that he helped put in place and insisted he knew nothing about the contents. He violated the law again not even a week after being brought up on charges and continued to do so until his resignation. What is really unfair about this, is he should not have even run for the alderman seat last fall. He deceived the residents of Ward 3 when the rightful candidate should have been elected. Brad Will got what he deserved. He had selfish motives all along.

Question. Where in the City Charter does it say the Mayor appoints Will's replacement?

Also did the appointee "apply?"

Richard T. Cahill Jr. said...

According to the newspaper, the new Alderman applied.

I can tell you without question that the Charter gives the Mayor the right to fill the vacancy.

That waiver is going to come back and bite people on the ass. It either got considered in executive session, or outside the ethics board, both of which are improper. Also the waiver can only be requested by current, not former city employees. It is NOTa disciplinary matter and the process clearly must be public.

I am concerned that the new guy in Ward 3 stays in office until Dec.2017. I think he should be on a ballot someplace in Ward 3 and let him campaign like all the alderman had to do. Not fair to us in ward 3 . we knew nothing about him as he is a recent citizen to this ward and Kingston. Or it Should have gone to the 2nd place alderman in the last election (11/15). Is there anyway he would be on the ballot come Nov election this year? or is too late for him to have a challenger and have a real campaign. What I read about him in paper I feel he is even further left then Brad Will. We had a inexperienced Mayor pick our representation....based on a resume.
