In an attempt to prevent his political suicide, Kevin Cahill is trying to meet with Mike Hein and also get the Assembly back in session in order to pass the necessary bill and prevent layoffs.
I would not be surprised if Shelly Silver does Kevin a favor and fixes the problem. After all, Kevin has been kissing up to him for years.
As for opponents, only 2 have surfaced, but neither are strong enough candidates to win. One (Woerner) was just defeated in a ward primary. The other ( Andi Turco-Levin) will never get the support of the conservative party. She is also too liberal to present an alternative to Kevin.
More seasoned politicos are waiting to see whether Shelly Silver bails Kevin out. If that happens, Kevin takes a hit but survives. It is only if the matter really blows up and causes layoffs that Kevin becomes extremely vulnerable. Then, a truly conservative candidate with the ability to speak and debate well can defeat Kevin. A liberal Rino, someone with substantial baggage, or someone who cannot get the Rep, Ind, and Con lines has NO chance to win.

Seems like Cahill is not going to give in. It is time for him and Silver to be sent packing.
Who is FactChex1 on the Freeman web site? It is obviously a Kevin Cahill plant.
What about you. Put up or stop you're wining.
Kevin has served us well over the years. Thank God someone finally has stood up the the "Mighty Heiny". Hein miscalculated his opponent and its going to cost him 6 million. NO new hires on the 6th floor for 100k plus.
Rich,
I'm not certain of your source, but I have no intention at this time to run for Kevin's seat.

Who would you pick as a conservative to go after Kevin's seat

> Ever the diplomat, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has avoided taking sides in the sales tax dispute that threatens to cost Ulster County $22 million.
>
> Or has he?
>
> While using the bland term “unfortunate” to characterize what has happened, he did offer another shade of opinion this week that hints at something more.
>
> During the latest session in Albany, legislators approved several dozen requests from counties and other municipalities to maintain or raise their sales tax rates. Only one failed to advance. That was the request from Ulster, a noncontroversial bill with sponsors in both the Senate and Assembly that was on the same path toward approval until one man — Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston — blocked it.
>
> Armed with the powers that come from loyal service to Speaker Sheldon Silver and other party bosses, Cahill waited until the final days of the session to demand that the county make legal and financial changes that he dictated or he would not let the bill pass.
>
> That, the governor said at a meeting in New Paltz this week, was “something that, in my opinion, shouldn’t have happened.”
>
> True, the governor did not name names. But he does not have to. The only person who made this happen, who could have made sure that it did not happen, was Cahill.
>
> The veteran assemblyman may still be a big man in Albany, but he has become a big joke at home.
>
> He is afraid to attend the kinds of public meetings where he used to be a featured guest. When the governor visits to talk about spending millions of state dollars on important projects such as recovering from storm damage, the local assemblyman is going to be there.
>
> But Kevin Cahill was not.
>
> When the county executive takes the extraordinary step of outlining the budget for the coming year far in advance to give public employees and taxpayers fair warning about the coming changes and challenges they face, the local assemblyman rarely weighs in.
>
> But Kevin Cahill can’t stop himself. He thinks that he knows more about the county budget than the county staff members who put it together. And since he has no real alternatives to offer, he retreats to his office and sends out press releases with personal attacks on those who have to clean up the mess he has made.
>
> The governor has said that if the Legislature approves the sales tax extension for Ulster County, he will sign it. Every legislator in the Senate and Assembly who has weighed in on this issue has expressed hope that the extension will come up for a vote as soon as possible and be approved quickly to help minimize the damage to Ulster County, the City of Kingston and all the others who will be affected.
>
> Yet even if the county makes the changes that Cahill demanded, it is not clear that he would vote to maintain the sales tax rate where it has been for several years. He prides himself on always voting against these measures, although he does not go so far as to block them. He saves that power for use against the people who elected him.
Andi,
Your name has been mentioned as an interested candidate by high level people in the Republican, Conservative, and even Democrat parties. As to what started the talk in the first place, I have no idea.

To those who had comments pending, my apologies. I was so busy with work and copy editing my forthcoming book, I was unable to log in for over a week.
Greg,
If I could pick the candidate, it would be John Guerin. I do not know if he is interested, but he could defeat Kevin and would be a GREAT Assemblyman.
8:29,
Many people have been considered to be the actual person behind the name. I have long suspected Tom Hoffay, while others think it is Kevin's brother, Brian.
A few think it is Kevin himself, though I tend to doubt that.
8:24,
Speaking of FactChex1, you sure sound like him.
Kevin has not served the district well. The first rule of being an elected representative is do no harm. Kevin failed that.
I agree that sales taxes should be reduced, but not the way Kevin did it. I consider property taxes far worse than sales taxes. The people in the City of Kingston either are going to face property tax increases or people are going to lose their jobs because of Kevin's ego inflated actions.
Ask them what they think of Kevin's service.
I will agree with you on one point, however. This whole matter was a battle between Mike Hein and Kevin Cahill. Kevin wanted to show everyone that he was the Alpha Democrat in Ulster County.
In the end, Kevin allowed his battle with Mike Hein to result in severe collateral damage. You can criticize the budgeting of Mike Hein and maybe even have a few good points. But, Kevin went too far.
Finally, I am not sure what you mean about putting up. Are you insinuating that I cannot criticize Kevin unless I decide to run against him? I assure you that as a citizen of the Assembly district and as a taxpayer, I have every right to criticize or praise any politician I want. If you do not like that, then move to a different country where there is no freedom of speech.
As for me running, I have been approached by many people, including a few Democrats, looking for a Cahill versus Cahill battle. I must admit that I am intrigued. That being said, if I had to make the decision today, I would say no. I have a lot going on in my life including the release of my book on the Lindbergh kidnapping in May.
As for what I would decide next June, only God knows for sure.
Is Bob Senor crazy or what?
Can you believe Bob he hasen't lived in the ward since last year. He has the gall to put down Shabot.
the city should make him pay back all the money he was paid for the last 14 months.
I agree with 7:45. But now he will be GONE as of 12/31. good riddance! How he kept being voted back into office is a mystery to me!
