Who Should be the Candidate?

Over the last few weeks, it has been said repeatedly that Kevin Cahill (no relation) needs to be defeated in 2014.  Such a thing would be music to my ears.  The question then becomes by whom should he be defeated?

I would be interested to hear some suggestions.  Perhaps a Republican/Conservative challenger?  Perhaps a Democrat in a primary?  Let's hear some suggestions.

Anyone who thinks that Kevin Cahill's career is over is being naive. He got more votes than ever last time out. Albeit he ran unopposed , but 47,352 votes, no matter how you slice it is a lot of votes. More than the 43,849 Hein got when he ran unopposed.
It is fun to speculate and wring hands when your perceived enemies are getting beat up, but it is also foolish to start believing the hype of just a handful of haters, and it is just a handful.

Let me make it clear. If a decent candidate surfaces, Kevin is meat.

No offense, but you are drinking the Kool-Aid Mr. Cahill.

Kevin Cahill's re-election chances are as sound as the pound as they say.

I don't drink Kool-Aid. Never liked it.

As for Kevin, he is in real trouble. His only hope is to get the Assembly back in session, correct his mistake, and then make a mea culpa.

Without that, he is in real trouble.

It seems you are believing Hein's press and a few other outspoken public people. Shayne Gallo? Lew Kirshcner? Bill Larkin? Really? Everyone else, (who isn't on Hein's payroll) have simply called for the Assembly to convene. Not to mention, there are many people who believe Assemblyman Cahill did the right thing.

You are drastically underestimating the depth of Assemblyman Cahill's popularity and the loyalty of his supporters.

10:03,

You are either related to Kevin, working for Kevin, or an overly loyal politico.

Very few agree with Kevin on this. He violated a basic rule of being an elected official -- do no harm.

Advocating tax reduction is a good thing. Implementing it must be done properly. He cut the county and the city off at the knees. If the city and county end up with layoffs, Kevin takes the hit.

As for his "popularity", you greatly overestimate it. He is viewed as an opportunistic politician, nothing more.

Although I know you will never let anyone get the last word, I think you are wrong. The people who lined up behind Hein from day 1 are lining up behind him now. If you think Kevin is vulnerable, I suggest you start drumming up an opponent now! See how far you get. Talking is one thing, pulling the trigger on a run against a very, very popular long term politician is another.

Whoever thinks that Kevin Cahill did not harm the people of Ulster County and City of Kingston need to attend the finance and economic committees of the city of Kingston and see how little money there is going forward. It is budget time! Listen to the calculations of how this 1% loss affects taxpayers in the city and see how the council and Mayor have to adjust for the loss of revenue. See whose job gets cut..And then proclaim how Cahill saved us .10 on $10 when we go shopping for taxable items. Ooooo, I feel a shopping frenzy coming on!
This is what happens when politicians start to take themselves too seriously and feel they are impervious to any backlash. Times up, Kevin.
