Gallo Wins Dem Primary

The recount has finished. Shayne Gallo has won by 7 votes. I congratulate Shayne on a well run race.

I find it very interesting that BOTH of the party nominees went down to defeat. The only party nominees to win their respective primaries were Shayne Gallo (Independence Party) and myself (Conservative Party). Perhaps the Democrat and Republican committees are in need of a leadership change.

YA THINK....THE POLITCAL SCENE LOCALLY IS A JOKE!!!

Baseball Great, Satchel Paige, is quoted as saying, "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you."

Good advice for Gallo I think. He will have to run as hard as he can and follow Paige's advice. Don't underestimate Polacco..... he's one hell of a runner.

Rich- If you really think that Shayne's campaign was well run, you weren't paying attention.

3:38,

Perhaps I missed something. Gallo won, right?

THERE ARE NO LEADERS IN ULSTER COUNTY;JUST POLITICIANS WHO STAY EMPLOYED BY WINNING ELECTIONS.

Perhaps the Catholic church is also in need of some Protestantism.

I know the republican party in Kingston needs a shake up. As long as long as Tony Sinagra is in charge I am pretty much embarrased to admit I am a republican.

It doesn't matter who runs the republican party in Kingston, they are non existant. They had there best chance 4 years ago and couldn't get it together.

They will never stop arguing amongst themselves. This City is doomed to be under the good ol boys for another 4 years.

Watch for Spada and company to start lining Gallos pockets.

Rich would you please step aside for this election, before the ballots are printed, don't be a spoiler. You know you are not going to win this one.If you really care about Kingston, you will do the right thing. If you stay in this election, you will never be respected!

3:38 - I can't wait to read your explanation as to how Shayne's campaign wasn't well run.

3:59 - Spada and Aaron were cozy with Clement. They tried to schmooze with Gallo; he would have nothing to do with them. This is where being from here helps. Clement had no idea of who they were or their history. Gallo knows the skeletons and where the bodies are buried.

Understand one major factor as to why Gallo won't get involved in any shenanigans - and Cahill will confirm this: Gallo (as did all attorneys) worked VERY hard for his law degree and to pass the bar. He has way too much to lose to do anything unethical or illegal. Why would he risk losing his license to practice law to curry favor with Aaron and Spada? For the relatively few dollars he'd make, it's not worth it.

Some of the Spada's have been pulling for Gallo since day one.
Just like other people were backing Turco, Clement, Cahill and Polacco.
Why do find the need to always bring up thier name like its some conspiracy?
If the Spadas were backing your candidate, would you still be such a whiner?

6:15,

When I appeared before the Conservatives, they asked me and the other candidates to promise to run on the Conservative Party line regardless of the outcome in other party primaries.

I cannot tell you what the other candidates said, but I gave them my word that I would run on the Conservative line if they supported me.

The Conservatives endorsed me and worked for me during the primary. I am honor bound to run on the Conservative line.

I was taught that when a man gives his word, he has to keep it even if doing so would be difficult. Put another way, if you give your word that you will flap your arms and fly, you damn sure better sprout feathers.

I could not respect myself if I went back on my word just because it was politically expedient. While politicos may not respect my decision to stay in this race, I would lose all self respect if I went back on my word. What good is the respect of others if I do not respect myself?

Throughout my political life, I have criticized politicians who promised to cut taxes, reduce spending, etc., only to ignore their promises later. If I ignore my promise to the Conservative Party, then I am no better than the very politicians I have criticized over the years.

So, to answer your question, I am staying in the race and keeping my word.

It doesn't matter whether he withdraws or not. He's on the ballot either way. That's the law. Am I right, Rich?

I find it hard to beleive that Clement had no idea about the Spada's locally, thats a ridculous comment especailly since he was in bed with Scott Herrington...
Gallo has been supported by a couple of the Spadas since the beginning, yet you state that he has nothing to do with them? Really, you better check on that too.
Exaclty what do you think any of the Spadas will gain from any certain candidate getting elected?
Since you are so wise, why wouldnt a candidate want to have local business people or a former long standing politician with incredible pull in his corner?
You should really get your facts before you spout off about things you wish you were involved in.
Based on your comments, you have proved that you dont know much about what is going on.

725, while I agree that Shayne would not risk his law license, the bigger reason he won't sell his soul and won't play pay to play is because it is just not Shayne's way.

If anything, he is independent and stubborn to a fault and his biggest task once he is mayor is going to be to learn to work with those who he does not completely trust. If he was willing to play politics as usual, he would have been the nominee coming out of the convention.

The powers that be would not support him because he was not willing to buy their votes with promises of jobs or favors.

As to Cahill's decision to stay in the race or drop out, with the enrollment advantage and Shayne's knowledge and experience, he wins either way, so let Rich protect his base for the future and live up to his word. In the end, that is all we have.

Hey 7:25
Your angel Gallo was looking cozy with Spada and Aaron last night at the grand opening of that restaurant in uptoen Kingston
WTF...

Anonymous said...

Oh please it was a Chamber mixer and the grand opening of a new restaurant in uptown Kingston. Gallo was invited by Chamber President Ward Todd to attend. He is running for Kingston Mayor, and he supports local business here at home.

Looking cozy? Were they hugging? Or talking? Is he allowed to talk to them? Does that mean he's making deals? You can be friendly with everyone, but that doesn't mean you have to make deals. The last thing this city needs is another mayor who's willing to make deals for his friends.

And, since 11:47 is such a champion of the Spadas' "incredible pull", tell us what that means for everyone. How does their "incredible pull" benefit us?

Are you referring to Al Spada pushing environmental reports through? Or Mike Spada being delinquent on his taxes on a myriad of properties throughout town? Or Steve Aaron defaulting on his agreement with the IDA by not paying back his loans?

That's not the "incredible pull" what this city needs. It pulls us down so that this city looks like crap - it doesn't help us at all.

For years, these people have been part of the problem, not part of the solution. And if you think they have helped us, please tell me how.

I may be wrong here, but do any of the Spadas or Aaron hold a political office?
Exactly how and why are they to blame for Hein and Sottiles failures are so called leaders?
If they are breaking the law, arrest them.
If they owe money, sue them?
But lets not lose sight on who is to blame for the way the city looks and what is it filled with.
No one or two local business people are to blame.
As for Shayne speaking with them, its nice to see a candidate mingling with the public and getting views from both sides of the aisle.
Cant hurt if the next mayor is willing to listen to the people.
On a side note, I would have to say that Al probably has the largest political base of people and friends in his corner, so incredilbe pull might not be too far off.
just my opinion.

You stated earlier that Gallo would have nothing to do with them in an earlier statement, and I simply mentioned that he didnt look to uncomfortable with them the other night.
Al's pull doesnt benefit you or I one bit, however if you were running for local office you would want him in your corner, wouldnt you? Thats because he has pull and friends. Thats what I said and thats what I meant.
I am not championing for them, however you bashed them by stating watch how they fill Gallos pockets. I simply stated that they were in his corner from the start, because you were incorrect stating that they were backing Clement and you were wrong.
The city looks like crap and is run like crap because of the failed leadership not because someone isnt paying thier taxes or pushed a report through.
Maybe Mike just wants to be like the rest of the people that come here an live for free that you dont bitch about, or maybe its because every tennant he once had has left the area due insane taxes, crime, dirtbags littering our streets and all the other issues facing the city and they couldnt afford to remain in business locally?
Are we to believe that Steve Aaron and the two Spada guys have created this situation to?

Al Spada for mayor, we need some GOP around here!
