Gretzinger to Retire

Mr. Gretzinger announced he will retire in January of 2012. Most people are speculating on why he retired. My question is who will be chosen to replace him and how much more in salary will the Board authorize?

Get the Board's attention. No more high salary offerings to the new applicants. I would imagine most people who will be interviewing for this job would realize that people cannot sustain high salaries and benefits in their school districts especially if job applicants have lived in NY state for any length of time.

Too bad Pritchard left. Might have been a good promotion for him and for us taxpayers. At least, he was keeping on eye on the money/operations.

Gretzinger will always have some shadow of doubt over his head as to why he left. Karma....

For the life of me I don't know why you didn't throw your hat in the ring to run for school board instead of wasting your time trying to run again for mayor. You have exhausted energies that could go to good use and you may actually win a seat on the school board. It's not too late to reconsider your options. The petition process has begun for school board candidates so maybe you could convince R. Mitchell to be your running mate. He always has something to say about this topic as well. It's not like potential candidates are flocking to Crown Street for their informational packets. Go for it!!!

Take a good look at the current markets for the position. Many building principals throughout the region are making in the 120's. Assistant superintendents are above that. The truth is that anyone applying for the position will be looking for a salary comparable to what Gretzinger is getting. Anyone who is qualified to run a district the size of Kingston will be looking for about 200K. You don't have to agree that the salaries are justified, just don't delude yourself into believing that someone who is properly certified is going to take the job for less.

Need an example, look no further than Saugerties, a far smaller district than Kingston where the board thought they could low ball the superintendent, they hired a building principal who had not even completed his certification, and they ended up paying him big money anyway.

Complain all you want, it is what it is.

9:28 you are certainly correct. Gretzinger put in a lot of time as a teacher in parochial school, and worked his way up also. He's not a Johnny-Come-Lately--and has been in the area a long time. Not someone who flies in from Georgia and flies out, in other words...
Hatchetman Paul Kirby of the Freeman is enough to take out the most dedicated individual to find some "scandal" by making a mountain out of a mole hill. That's what was done in the Matthews matter to Gretzinger in the Freeman's overreaching scandal-mongering and that's what Kirby does period. He is in the style of Walter Winchell/Matt Drudge, and one reason this community cannot afford the "Daily Disappointment" newspaper!
This community really does not have ANY truly independent media in it--those who claim the role are not, and certainly others don't even dare claim the role. That's one reason Kingston continues to be so messed up. People are given a pack of lies by the rotten media here, then they go out and fight each other based on lies. There isn't any better program to divide and conquer than the crazy media here, which is SAYING something, since that is what many pols do routinely.
